FSGS, Atrophic Kidneys, Creatinine 2.4: What to Do
Question:
I made a kidney biopsy in 2010 and found to have Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis . Yesterday , I was diagnosed to be having atrophic kidney (right kidney is much smaller , the left kidney has few atrophy ). My creatinine is 2.4mg/dL . I am worried and don’t know how your medication will be in hand. Currently I am taking medicine for high BP, uric acid, anemia. Thank you very much .

Answer: This is Dr.Shirley from Beijing Tongshantang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I am glad to help you. You said you were diagnosed with FSGS and the creatinine now is 2.4mg/dl. It's already much higher than normal. It's true there is renal fibrosis and your kidneys will continue to shrink if not treated.

The proper treatment now should be stopping the inflammation in the kidneys and at the same time expanding the blood vessels, improving blood circulation and increasing the blood flow in the kidneys. In this way, the blood and oxygen supply in the kidneys will be sufficient. It will reactivate the self renewal of the damaged renal cells and recover the renal function. Only by stopping the secretion of inflammatory factors and increase blood and oxygen supply in the kidneys, can the atrophy be stopped. However, from your current treatment, all these medicines can not help you reach the purpose.

In our hospital, Toxin-Removing Treatment also known as Detoxification Therapy is often used into such a case. This is a systemic treatment, which targets at solving all the blood problems. When internal environment gets improved, the damaged kidneys can gradually heal themselves, and all associated symptoms will disappear. Generally speaking,

-After about one week’s treatment, swelling will fade away.

-After about half month’s treatment, proteinuria will reduce. High blood pressure will come down and be stabilized. High uric acid, creatinine and urea level will decrease. And anemia will get great relief.

-After about one month’s treatment, your FSGS will be under control, and renal function will get improved. But to reinforce the effect, you need to keep on treatment for a period of time.
